Some teeth are lost due to poor dental hygiene and some causes are things out of our patient’s control like natural causes. Despite how they lost their teeth, dental implants are a way to give our patients their life back. If you have lost teeth, either through natural reasons or in an accident, dental implants in Sacramento can help regain your confidence. Our office can help you to smile again and live life the way you used to. While this revolutionary procedure is not the quickest fix, the results our patients can achieve are truly life changing.

What is a dental implant?

While there are different options for patients struggling with the loss of one or more teeth, dental implants have a unique benefit that sets them apart. Common options such as traditional bridges and dentures replace the crown (visible portion), but they ignore the other vital component of your tooth – the root. Your tooth root stimulates your jawbone, keeping it full and healthy. Without one, patients experience bone deterioration over time, leading to an increased risk of additional tooth loss or a sunken facial appearance. Thankfully, dental implants replicate the entire structure of a tooth, preserving and encouraging the growth of new bone tissue. Dental implants can help to rejuvenate your entire smile.

How does the procedure work?

If you feel like dental implants may be the right choice for you, you will first need to have a thorough examination and consultation with Dr. Grivas or Dr. Koett. By examining your mouth and discussing your dental goals, either of our dentists will determine if you’re a viable candidate for the procedure. Once we’ve worked with you to create a treatment plan that fits your unique needs, we will take CT scans to check for bone quality and density. From there, you’ll be directed to a trusted specialist nearby who can conduct the surgical placement of your implant(s). You can see an animated version of the procedure here.

Once the surgical portion is completed, you will then undergo a healing period that will take about three or four months. During this time, the new implants gradually form a bond with your jawbone, creating a strong foundation for your new restorations. Once your mouth has healed properly, you’ll return to our Sacramento office so that we can place your high-quality, custom restorations.

What benefits come from dental implants?

Whether you’ve lost a couple of teeth or an entire arch, implants can be used in various ways to fill the gaps in your smile. The versatility that dental implants offers can restore the structure you need to feel confident in smile once again. Implant-retained prosthetics, such as bridges or dentures, can be attached securely to a patient’s smile with the help of only a few implants. That’s right! Your dentist in Sacramento can significantly reduce dental care costs while still providing the same awesome benefits. Some other positive things about dental implants include:

  • Ability to blend well with the rest of your smile with tooth-colored restorations.
  • No abrupt changes in your dental hygiene routine, your restorations can be cared for just as regular teeth.
  • Durable restorations built to last the rest of our patient’s lives with the proper care and regular checkups.

There’s no reason to continue struggling with day-to-day tasks because your smile isn’t at it’s very best. Dr. Scott Grivas and Dr. Will Koett are here to help get your life back to normal. Contact our office today to see if dental implants are the right restorative procedure for you!
